The objective of the project is the management of the basic threat, stopping the decrease of the ground water level, reversing the process. When compiling the content and activities of the actions, we have overviewed and studied the mistakes of the past decades having negative impact to the ground water level. By revealing the mistakes we tried to develop such actions that would provide effective and sustainable long term answer and solution to the negative processes – within the possibilities of a forest management company and in the framework of natural environment.
By implementing Actions C.1-C.6 we strive for retaining water (both rain and ground water). Construction of structures in the project area results in affecting the quantity of precipitation from rainfalls retained in an adjustable way by taking into consideration the nature protection aspects as well. Retaining water in appropriate locations results in higher level of ground water for longer time thus ensuring favourable habitat conditions to target species. By applying this method the prevention of Alluvial forests with Alnus glutinosa and Fraxinus excelsior (Alno-padion, Alnion incanae, Salicion albae) from supplanting can be achieved, thus ensuring unfavourable conditions for the spreading of invasive species. Higher ground water level provides unsufficient conditions for Melolontha melolontha, therefore the proportion of infected areas as well as the infection rate will decrease.
Activities of Action C.7, the reconstruction of service roads indirectly contributes to the elimination of the basic problem of the project area. Lacking service roads with appropriate state, the accessibility of the project area and thus the management/maintenance of built-in structures in periods with high precipitation becomes problematic. The objective of Action C.7 is to support the implementation and maintenance of Action C.6 – thus contributing to the slowing down, stopping and reversing the degradation of the area.
In order to fight against invasive species, besides deteriorating their living conditions, the existing individuals shall also be supplanted, thus preventing their reproduction and eliminating the threat of their supplanting of valuable, protection-demanding species. The activities of Action C.8 aim at the aforementioned threat 2. The action can be implemented parallel with performing water retaining related actions.
